In 2nd grade STREAM we have been focusing on making predictions and recording results. A class favorite was the tin foil boat experiment. The objective for this lesson was for students to identify different strategies used to solve a problem. Students brainstormed ideas, sketched an outline, and created a boat made of tin foil that they believed would hold the most pieces of candy corn without sinking. Students recorded both their predictions and results. One student’s boat held over 250 pieces of candy corn before sinking! Each student took pride in their creation. Students supported one other by counting together and assuring their classmates that it was okay if their boat sank. We love STREAM time in 2nd grade!
