Helping Harry

During the first week of school, Mrs. Dahill’s fifth graders worked to Help Harry.  The task assigned to the students was to build a perch for Harry so he can more easily see around our classroom.  Their goal was to get Harry as high above the desk top as possible without putting his safety at risk.  Working with a designated number of materials and combating time constraints, the fifth graders worked in pairs to accomplish the goal set before them.  Within 30 minutes, all of the teams were able to fulfill this task!  Mrs. Dahill loved pointing out that each group was able to reach the same goal in different ways.  They weren’t pretty, but the creativity is priceless.
